The Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF) will hold a meeting on March 20 to analyse the Bar Council of India (BCI) Rules, which allow foreign law firms to practise and advise on foreign law in the country.
SILF President Lalit Bhasin commented on the opening of the Indian legal market, saying, “It is a welcome step, but the BCI Rules need to be ironed out. The interests of the Indian legal profession, in particular, should be protected.”
“This meeting is being held to discuss the new BCI Rules and how they will benefit or harm the Indian legal profession, particularly Indian law firms,” he added.
Bhasin further stated about the SILF’s position, ” “Since 2014, SILF has not opposed foreign law firms’ entry. However, it must be done gradually in order to protect the interests of Indian lawyers and law firms.”
The meeting will be led by Bhasin, and it is anticipated that Managing Partners from the major Indian law firms, including Pallavi Shroff, Rajiv Luthra, Anand Desai, Sudhir Mishra, V Lakshmikumaran, and others, will be there.
