SC Collegium Recommends Appointment Of 4 District Judges As Madras HC Judges

SC collegium

The Supreme Court Collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, has proposed the appointment of four district judges as Madras High Court judges.

The recommended judges are: R Sakthivel, P Dhanabal, Chinnasamy Kumarappan and K Rajasekar.

The Madras High Court Collegium made the suggestion on August 10, 2022, with the approval of the Chief Minister and the Governor of Tamil Nadu, according to the Collegium resolution posted on the Supreme Court website on Wednesday.

“In accordance with the Memorandum of Procedure, this Collegium has consulted the Judges of the Supreme Court familiar with the operations of the Madras High Court to determine the eligibility and appropriateness of the above-named judicial officials for promotion to the High Court,” the resolution reads.

In addition, the Collegium stated in its statement that it had previously recommended the appointment of counsel Ramaswamy Neelakandan to the Madras High Court in a resolution dated January 17.

The government has yet to approve these two names, the collegium noted.

As a result, it requested that the government notify the appointments of Neelakandan and Sathyan, claiming that withholding recommendations disrupts seniority.

On of February 1, the Madras High Court has 52 judges, leaving it 23 judges short of its full strength of 75.
