Delhi Riots 2020: One Of The Victim’s Mother Files Petition Seeking For Court-Monitored Probe

Delhi Riots 2020 victim’s mother urged the High Court for a court-monitored probe and alleged that her son died due to police brutality while in custody. The Delhi High Court was recently hearing plea of Kismatun seeking a court-monitored investigation into his son’s Faizan’s death.

Deceased Faizan’s Mother alleged that police brutally was cause of his death.

Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Amit Prasad, denied all allegations and claimed that the original daily diaries, arrest memo, and other documents connected to the case will be submitted before the Court as and when necessary.

Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani recorded the submission after Advocate Vrinda Grover, appearing for Kismatun, voiced apprehensions regarding the same.

Vrinda Grover, the advocate of the applicant, further stated that up until now, the Delhi Police had only been looking into the videos in which Faizan was assaulted and had not stated anything about whether it was also inquiring the developments at Jyoti Nagar Police Station.

SPP Amit Prasad stated that the police are investigating the case and that voice samples from some of the officers involved have been forwarded for forensic examination. He stated that it is difficult to identify the police officers using the incident videos since they do not show any faces.

“The incident injured five people. Two of the four survivors did not come forward, and the two that did have stated that nothing occurred in the police station. They have also neglected to identify the police officers who are accused of thrashing them during the rioting,” Prasad said.

Following a brief hearing of the submissions, the Court scheduled the matter for further hearing on May 8, 2023.
