Finland Trip For Govt Teachers: Delhi Govt Moves SC Against LG’s Decision

AAP vs LG

The Delhi Government has filed a petition in the Supreme Court opposing Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena’s decision to forbid government school teachers from taking future international foreign training.

Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi presented the case before a bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud.

The CJI listed the matter for hearing on 14th April, 2023.

The government and the LG have been at odds over the training of teachers for government schools abroad since October 2022.

According to the Delhi Government, by failing to respond to the proposal, the LG was delaying the process of sending teachers for training.

The Delhi CM, Arvind Kejriwal led ministers, MLAs, and AAP workers to the LG’s residence on January 16 to seek prompt approval of the government’s proposal to send 30 teachers to Finland for training.

Notably, the Central government had objected to the protest march during a hearing of the issue between the Delhi government and the Central government challenging the administrative control over transfers and postings of civil officials in the national capital.

On March 4, 2023, the LG ultimately gave its approval to the proposal.

He did order that no such training session will be held going forward, though, which prompted the AAP government to move the Apex Court.
