The Supreme Court has today agreed to hear a plea by the arrangement committee of Gyanvapi Masjid seeking permission to perform wudu (washing of hands and face for religious purposes) inside the mosque premises.
The Supreme Court on behalf of the Masjid Committee demanded an early hearing on the application from Chief Justice DY Chandrachud where the CJI stated that he would hear the application on April 14.
In fact, the Masjid Committee has demanded the Supreme Court open the sealed area in the Gyanvapi Masjid in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh on account of Ramzan. The Masjid Committee has stated in its application that the Supreme Court in its previous order asked for adequate arrangements for the wudu of the namazis.
Previously, The Supreme Court on November last year extended the security of the area till further orders after the Hindu side said a ‘Shivling’ was found at the place of ablutions at the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi.
The court also ordered the sealing of the entire Vaju area.
