The Islamabad High Court on Wednesday granted an extension to Imran Khan, chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf & ex-prime minister till June 3, in the National Crime Agency’s Al Qadir case involving 190 million pounds.
This extension applies to the violation of section 144 during a rally in Islamabad and the alleged instigation of violence following his arrest. The IHC has extended Imran’s bail in the Al-Qadir Trust case for 3 days and has instructed him to approach the relevant accountability court within the same time frame, as per the sources.
Imran Khan’s previous bail, which was granted two weeks ago, has expired, and he is required to appear in court today.
On May 12, the court issued a directive preventing authorities from arresting the PTI chief in various cases, including undisclosed ones, until May 15. Subsequently, the court extended the restriction on the arrest until May 31.
As per the sources, the court will also address additional bail petitions related to violations of section 144 during a rally supporting the judiciary in Islamabad and incidents of violence on May 9. These cases will be heard after the Al Qadir hearing on Wednesday.
Furthermore, an accountability court will consider the bail plea of Imran Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, in the Al Qadir Trust case later today.
Imran Khan’s legal advisor has stated that the PTI chief will travel from Zaman Park to Islamabad on Wednesday.
Earlier, the federal government added Imran Khan’s name to Exit Control List in connection with the 190 million Pound National Crime Agency (NCA) scandal, a Pakistani news channel covering topics like politics, business, finance, and many others.
Therefore, the NAB initiated an investigation against Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, and others for allegedly acquiring a significant amount of land in the name of Al Qadir University Trust, resulting in a loss of 190 million pounds to national finance.
The charges alleged that Khan and others improperly utilized 60 billion PKR or 190 million pounds sent by Britain’s NCA to the government.
Imran Khan established the Trust for the Al-Qadir University Project on December 26, 2019.
