Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut Files Defamation Complaint Against Kirit Somaiya (BJP) For Tweets

Shiv Sena Leader Uddhav Thackeray & Member of Parliament Sanjay Raut have taken legal action against BJP leader Kirit Somaiya for defamatory tweets.

Raut filed a criminal defamation complaint in a Mumbai court, alleging that since 2022, Somaiya has been consistently publishing baseless and defamatory statements against him on Twitter.

Raut stated that “I was in shock and surprise when I noticed Somaiya’s tweets on his Twitter account with a defamatory statement against me. The defamatory statements from his Twitter account made against me without having any strict proof are trying to malign my reputation in the eyes of society and public at large.”

Raut claimed the statements that were made to tarnish his image in public and are still available on Somaiya’s page.

Raut emphasized in his complaint that, “The reason behind Somaiya indulging in making such slanderous statements on Twitter is to defame my character and disrupt my goodwill which I have earned in the society after lots of hard work and years.”

He further asserted that Somaiya’s intent is to damage his hard-earned goodwill and character without any valid proof, terming it a form of character assassination.

Raut said that “Somaiya’s statements are destructive and divulging into character assassination without any proof. Such malicious statement, without any documentary or any proof, indicates Somaiya’s total irresponsible attitude.”

Raut, in his complaint, urged the Magistrate at Mulund, Mumbai to acknowledge the offenses under sections 499 & 500 of IPC and summon Somaiya as the accused.
