Bombay HC Quashes Molestation Case Filed By Rakhi Sawant Against Mika

Rakhi Sawant

The Bombay High Court recently quashed a 2006 First Information Report (FIR) and chargesheet alleging molestation against singer Mika Singh by model Rakhi Sawant.

A division bench comprising Justice AS Gadkari and Justice SG Dige granted the order following a plea by Mika Singh to dismiss the case, citing an amicable and conclusive resolution of their differences.

Sawant’s counsel informed the bench of her non-objection to quashing the FIR.

The FIR, registered on June 11, 2006, pertained to an incident where Singh allegedly forcibly kissed Rakhi Sawant during his birthday party at a Mumbai suburban restaurant. The media extensively covered the incident, sharing video footage and still photographs from the party.

Based on the complaint, Singh was booked for offenses under Sections 354 (molestation) and 323 (assault) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Following the incident, Singh reportedly went missing for a few days. He subsequently sought anticipatory bail from a sessions court, which was granted on June 17, 2006.

During the plea before the High Court, Singh asserted that the dispute between the two parties had been settled amicably. Sawant further supported this claim by submitting a sworn affidavit expressing no objection to the Court granting the relief sought.

Advocate Falguni Brahmabhat, representing Singh, informed the bench about the prolonged duration of the case, which has remained unresolved for the past 17 years.

“Though chargesheet has been filed against the accused (Singh), charges are yet to be framed. Singh and Sawant have buried the hatchet, have resolved their issued and are friends now,” Advocate Brahmabhat stated.

After considering the submissions, the bench quashed the matter.
