EU countries have reached an agreement on a renewable energy law

EU

On Friday, ambassadors from European Union (EU) countries reached an agreement on the EU’s significant renewable energy law. This breakthrough came after the Commission made a declaration stating the possibility of exempting specific ammonia plants from the renewable fuel targets.

The Commission’s declaration resolved a deadlock that had hindered the passage of the renewable energy law. France and other EU member states had raised concerns about the inclusion of non-renewable fuels, such as nuclear energy.

The agreement represents a step forward in the EU’s efforts to promote and regulate renewable energy sources, addressing concerns and finding compromises among member states. The exemption for certain ammonia plants suggests a recognition of the unique characteristics and potential of ammonia as a renewable fuel within the context of the law.
