Adipurush: Use Revenue Earned For Ram Mandir or Medical Institution, Plea files in HC

Adipurush

A petition has been filed in the Punjab & Haryana High Court, seeking prohibition on the further screening of the movie ‘Adipurush.’

The plea alleges that the film, through its dialogues, offends the religious sentiments of a “significant portion of society.”

The petitioner seeks directives from the State Government to take legal action against the filmmakers and collect the revenue generated from the movie’s screening in Punjab and Haryana. They propose utilizing the funds for the beautification of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya or donating them to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education, Chandigarh.

Mahant Ravi Kant, a resident of Patiala and a Mahant, has filed the public interest litigation (PIL) through advocates L.M Gulati, Jasneet Mehra, and Divya Gulati.

The plea highlights that the petitioner and their followers were “shocked to witness the deities being depicted in a derogatory manner and the use of offensive language.” They express deep concern over the distress experienced by a significant portion of society.

Furthermore, the plea asserts that the movie tarnishes the image of deities by employing foul language in the dialogues delivered by actors portraying Hindu gods. It contends that they should not be allowed to evade accountability in the name of Freedom of Speech and Expression.

The matter is scheduled for consideration on 4th July, 2023.
