Firing at Tis Hazari Court premises, BCD condemns the incident

A clash erupted between two groups of advocates on Wednesday at the Lawyer’s Chambers in the western wing of Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court complex.

The situation escalated from verbal abuse and scuffles to gunfire. Upon receiving the information, police officers promptly arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control.

According to police officials, the firing incident was sparked by a heated argument between the two groups of lawyers. “An altercation between two distinct factions of lawyers, including office-bearers, allegedly resulted in gunshots being fired into the air,” the official stated.The officials further stated that the police arrived at the scene and there were no reported casualties resulting from the incident. They added that a legal investigation is underway, and a team has been dispatched to the location to gather more information.”Legal action is being initiated in the matter and crime branch team has also reached the spot,” it added.

Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) President KK Manan and Co-President Himal Akhtar have strongly condemned the firing incident at the Tis Hazari Court premises.

They have assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted, and appropriate action will be taken against those found responsible. The investigation will also focus on determining whether the firearm used was licensed or unlicensed.

Himal Akhtar, co-chairman of the Bar Council of Delhi, emphasized that bringing weapons into court premises is unacceptable under normal circumstances, even if the weapon is licensed. The matter of how the weapons entered the court premises will also be investigated.

Several videos capturing the moment of the firing have gone viral on social media, depicting individuals brandishing weapons and firing shots. These videos have been shared with the police, who are working to identify the individuals involved.
