The Karnataka High Court has recently passed a stay order on the investigation into the case of alleged violation of the model code of conduct by BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda during the state assembly elections.
A single bench of Justice M Nagaprasanna was hearing the matter.
The BJP chief was accused of enticing voters through a speech given during a party campaign in Harapanahalli town, Vijayanaraga, in May 2023.
The matter has been scheduled for further hearing on June 21, 2023.
The Election Vigilance Division officials lodged a complaint with the Harappanahalli Police, stating that Nadda’s speech had enticed and threatened voters, thereby violating the Model Election Code of Conduct. In response, Nadda approached the High Court, requesting the quashing of the ongoing investigation.
