The Allahabad High Court has recently criticized the Deputy Director of Consolidation, Jaunpur for passing an ‘illegible’ handwritten order.
Justice Saurabh Shyam Shamshery criticized the poor legibility of the order and highlighted the availability of alternative options such as computer typing or voice-to-text technology in the 21st century.
The order stated, “The Court is amazed that Deputy Director of Consolidation, Jaunpur, in the 21st century, when Bharat is in process of ‘Mars Landing’, has passed a short-impugned order in his own handwriting which is absolutely illegible, when there are other options available such as by using computer or voice typing, however, the Officer has not used it.”
The criticism arose during the court’s consideration of a writ petition challenging the officer’s original order.
Despite seeking assistance from the counsel involved, the court found it difficult to comprehend the contents of the order due to its poor quality.
The court’s directive serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining clarity and legibility in official documents, especially in an era when technological alternatives are readily available.
