The Islamabad High Court chief justice has recently reserved the verdict on Imran Khan’s request to transfer him to Adiala jail from Attock, where his lawyers claim he is “facing serious threats to life.”
Furthermore, Khan’s legal representatives have affirmed that he confronts substantial life-threatening hazards at Attock jail.
The Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court, Justice Amir Farooq, has pronounced a judgment on Khan’s application for jail transfer, determining it secure and indicating his intention to release an appropriate directive in due course.
During the hearing, Punjab’s Assistant Advocate General Rao Shaukat and Sher Afzal Marwat, the legal representative for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman, appeared before the court.
Khan’s legal counsel contended that although the lower court designated Adiala Jail as Khan’s place of confinement, he was subsequently shifted to Attock Jail.
Subsequent to this contention, Shaukat presented the official transfer order to Attock Jail on behalf of the Punjab government.
Following this, during a press conference, Imran Khan’s legal representatives, Naeem Haider Panjutha and Ali Ijaz Buttar, expressed “grave concerns” concerning the security of the PTI chairman. They articulated that the former Prime Minister confronts substantial life-threatening hazards and demanded immediate measures for providing him with home-cooked meals and other necessary provisions.
Panjotha stated that the PTI’s legal team endeavored to meet Khan on Thursday; however, only his spouse was permitted to meet him.
The counsel underlined that it was their lawful prerogative to consult with Khan, as his guidance is imperative for his ongoing legal matters.
Furthermore, his endorsement is vital for the power of attorney required for his representation in court.
Barrister Salman Safdar, Khan’s legal counsel, failed to convince the court to exempt the PTI chairman from personal appearance due to his confinement in the Toshakhana case. As a result, previously filed petitions were dismissed.
In the preceding hearing, Barrister Safdar submitted a request for adjournment and exemption from personal appearance, citing Khan’s current circumstances beyond his control.
During his conversation with his legal representatives at Attock Jail, Imran Khan expressed his desire to be transferred out of his current detention, signaling his reluctance to remain incarcerated.
Furthermore, sources revealed that Imran Khan conveyed his dissatisfaction with the distressing conditions of his cell. The substandard conditions of his environment, characterized by flies during the day and insects at night, were underscored.
Imran Khan was arrested at his Zaman Park residence in Lahore soon after being convicted in the Toshakhana case.
