Supreme Court PRO Exposes False Social Media Post Misquoting CJI Chandrachud

CJI DY Chandrachud

The Public Relations Office (PRO) of the Supreme Court on Monday flagged a fabricated news piece circulating on social media and messenger apps, falsely attributing a statement to Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud.

The post circulating on social media asserted that the CJI had urged the public to unite and take to the streets to defend their rights against a ‘dictatorial government.’

In a press release, the PRO clarified that the social media post is bogus, maliciously intended, and deceitful. The post had not been issued by the CJI or any individual authorized by him. The PRO emphasized, “The Chief Justice of India has neither released nor authorized such a post. Appropriate measures are being pursued in collaboration with law enforcement authorities,” to address the matter.

Furthermore, the PRO indicated that suitable legal measures are being taken in connection with this issue. “Appropriate measures are being pursued in collaboration with law enforcement authorities,” affirmed the PRO’s press release.
