Tis Hazari Firing Case: Court Denies Interim Bail Of Suspended Lawyer

The Delhi Court has recently denied the bail plea of a suspended lawyer involved in the gunfire incident that transpired during a clash between two factions of legal practitioners within the Tis Hazari court premises.

The court emphasized the case, which witnessed the indiscriminate use of firearms and ammunition, thereby asserting that the release of the defendant would significantly prejudice the ongoing investigation.

Additional Sessions Judge Sanjay Sharma heard the regular bail plea of accused Shiv Ram Pandey.

ASJ Sharma stated in an order passed, “In such a serious case where arms and ammunition were indiscriminately used and further huge arms and ammunition were recovered from the co-accused persons, releasing the applicant on bail at this nascent stage of the investigation would seriously prejudice the course of the investigation. Accordingly, the application… is dismissed.”

Furthermore, the court acknowledged the arguments presented by the prosecution, which contended that Pandey was associated with the faction led by Manish Sharma and had been identified through CCTV footage as he engaged in throwing stones at the opposing group.

According to the police, an incident involving the discharge of a firearm occurred within the premises of Tis Hazari court on July 5, during a confrontation between two groups of legal professionals. The leaders of the rival factions Manish Sharma, the vice-president of the Delhi Bar Association, and Lalit Sharma, brother of the association’s secretary Atul Sharma were arrested.

Currently, 8 accused, including 7 advocates, are in judicial custody in the case registered at Sabzi Mandi police station.
