Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Monday stated that the Supreme Court will introduce digital Supreme Court Reports (SCR) in the upcoming weeks.
CJI acknowledged that the SCR was falling behind its time and disclosed that the new digital SCR that includes comprehensive volumes and will keep its footnotes and headnotes up-to-date.
Additionally, he revealed that an overhaul of the editorial team undertook and emphasized that the initiative is aimed at benefiting law colleges that may not have the means to subscribe to similar services.
The CJI stated, “SCR had fallen way behind its time. Now it has neutral citations as well. Digital SCR will have volumes now and the footnotes are also updated till about last month or so. I urge you all to take a look at it. The headnotes are also updated and our entire SCR editorial team has also been revamped. This is all free and benefits law colleges who cannot afford such paid subscriptions.”
The electronic Supreme Court Reports project was launched on the first working day of 2023 ‘as a tribute to the nation’, and is a free service as well.
