Delhi Liquor Scam: Court sends K. Kavita in Judicial Custody till 9th April

Kalvakuntla Kavitha

The Delhi Rouse Avenue Court has sent BRS leader K. Kavita in Judicial Custody till 9th of April. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) produced Kavita in the Rouse Avenue Court on Tuesday and requested her detention in judicial custody for 15 days. Kavita, in response, labeled the case against her as one of “political laundering,” asserting that it is fabricated and baseless. She alleged that one accused has joined the BJP, another is seeking a BJP ticket, and a third accused has contributed Rs 50 crore through electoral bonds.

During the hearing before the Rouse Avenue court, the investigating agency informed that they had recorded Kavita’s statement, interrogated her, and presented her with various in-person and digital evidence during the remand period.

Kavita, who is the daughter of Telangana Legislative Council member (MLC) and former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, was arrested in Hyderabad on March 15 and subsequently placed in ED custody. Earlier, the Supreme Court declined K Kavita’s bail plea in the Delhi Excise Policy case and directed her to seek bail from the trial court, emphasizing the need for a uniform approach to such matters.

The ED has alleged that Kavita, along with top leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), including Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia, conspired to benefit from the formulation and execution of the Delhi Excise policy. This allegation stemmed from a report highlighting procedural irregularities in the policy’s creation, leading to financial losses. The ED has accused AAP leaders of receiving bribes worth Rs 100 crore from a group known as the “South Group,” of which Kavita is purportedly a part.

Meanwhile, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal was also taken into Enforcement Directorate custody for seven days until March 28, following his arrest in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy case.
