Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Monday extended Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal‘s judicial custody in a money laundering case related to the alleged excise scam until April 23, 2024.
The Judge
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja, who presides over cases involving the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED), granted the extension after Kejriwal appeared before the court via video-conferencing upon the expiration of his previous custody period.
The central probe agency sought a 14-day extension of Kejriwal’s custody, citing the critical stage of the investigation.
However, the judge extended Kejriwal’s judicial custody until April 23, noting that the judicial custody of some co-accused individuals, including BRS leader K Kavitha, is set to conclude on that date. On April 1, the court had ordered Kejriwal’s judicial custody until April 15 in the case.
The ED Allegations
The ED has alleged that the AAP leader was involved in the “entire conspiracy of Delhi liquor scam, in drafting and implementation of the policy, for favouring and benefiting from the quid pro, receiving kickbacks and eventually using part of proceeds of crime generated out of the scheduled offence in the campaign for Goa Assembly elections.”
