Thiruvananthapuram Court Sentences Man for Raping Minor Girl

A special court in Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) has sentenced a 56-year-old man to 30 years imprisonment for raping a minor girl after assaulting her mentally ill mother.

The Judge

Thiruvananthapuram Special Court judge R Rekha sentenced Raju, a resident of Attingal, and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 on him.

Prosecution

As per the prosecution, the convict committed the rape in June 2020 at the victim’s residence, who is a fifth standard student. Special Public Prosecutor R S Vijay Mohan stated that the incident was brought to light when the girl, who resides in a children’s home, disclosed the assault to the authorities.

“On the day of the incident, the accused assaulted the mother and raped the girl. He also threatened the survivor’s younger brother,” Mohan elaborated. The victim had been residing in the children’s home to pursue her studies due to lack of parental care.

The prosecutor revealed that the survivor shared her ordeal with the children’s home officials after learning about a similar incident involving another resident. Subsequently, the officials notified the police, leading to the arrest of the accused.
