Police have filed an FIR against a prominent Marathi daily for allegedly breaching the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by publishing a political party advertisement without specifying the printer and publisher’s details, an official disclosed on Wednesday.
The FIR was lodged on Tuesday under the provisions of the Representation of Peoples Act following a complaint filed by a polling official, as informed by the station house officer of Turbhe police station in Navi Mumbai.
The printer of the newspaper has been identified as the accused in the offense. An investigation into the complaint is ongoing.
The complaint alleged that the Marathi daily had featured an advertisement of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in its publication on May 5, failing to include the name of the printer and publisher, which is obligatory according to election regulations, the SHO stated.
