FIR against 2 Pharmaceutical Agencies for Distributing Counterfeit Drugs

An FIR has been registered against two pharmaceutical agencies for allegedly distributing counterfeit drugs to hospitals in Thane city (Maharashtra) as per police reports on Saturday.

Complaint Filed

Following a complaint filed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged under sections 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery), 273 (sale of noxious food or drink), and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Drugs and Cosmetics Act of 1940, an official stated.

FDA Inspection

As per the complaint, FDA officials conducted an inspection of medicines at the government hospital in Thane on December 11, 2023, and discovered some of them to be counterfeit, he added.

The two agencies are accused of selling counterfeit medicines to Thane Civil Hospital and other hospitals, as well as supplying these drugs to various parts of the country, the official further stated.
