SC Stays Uttarakhand High Court’s’s Relocation Order

Uttarakhand High Court

The Supreme Court has stayed the Uttarakhand High Court’s order directing the state government to find a suitable location to relocate its headquarters outside of Nainital.
A bench comprising Justices PS Narasimha and Sanjay Karol also sought a response from the Uttarakhand government on the petition challenging the order to move the High Court out of Nainital.
The court order was issued while hearing the Uttarakhand High Court Bar Association’s petition against the High Court’s proposal to relocate its premises.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the State Government, stated that while new benches are within the purview of Parliament, the High Court decision is similar to a referendum.
Recently, the Uttarakhand High Court asked the Chief Secretary to find a suitable location for the High Court within a month.
