A 25-year-old man, wanted for multiple offenses under the cow slaughter law in Uttar Pradesh and carrying a reward of Rs 50,000, has been apprehended from Maharashtra’s Thane district, police reported on Thursday.
According to senior police inspector Dileep Patil of the local crime branch, the UP police received information that the accused, Sameer Tufel Qureshi, originally from Bareilly district, was hiding in the Mumbra area of Thane. They sought the assistance of their counterparts in Thane to locate him.
A Special Task Force (STF) team from Lucknow arrived in Thane to track down the accused.
With the assistance of the local crime branch investigators, they located the accused at a shop in the Shimla Park locality of Mumbra and apprehended him on Tuesday. Subsequently, the accused was transported to Uttar Pradesh for further legal proceedings.
The official disclosed that the accused faced charges in eight cases under the cow slaughter law and the Arms Act.
