A 34-year-old inmate, awaiting trial for murder in Rajasthan’s Barmer district, passed away in police custody due to complications arising from chicken pox, as per an official statement.
However, his family has made allegations of poisoning and initiated a protest, urging action against the authorities.
Superintendent of Police Narendra Singh stated that a judicial inquiry has been initiated to investigate the matter.
What did the Jail Authorities Says?
According to the jail administration, Jai Singh, who was under judicial custody in connection with a murder case, succumbed to his illness on Tuesday night.
Police reported that Jai Singh had been suffering from chicken pox and was admitted to the jail hospital after his health deteriorated.
His body has been placed in the mortuary of the district hospital.
Poisoned?
Meanwhile, relatives and family members of Jai Singh have alleged that he was poisoned through food. On Wednesday, they staged a sit-in protest outside the jail, refusing to claim the body until action is taken against the jail authorities.
