Swati Maliwal Case: Delhi Court Extends Bibhav Kumar’s Judicial Custody till June 22

Swati Maliwal

Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court has extended the judicial custody of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s aide Bibhav Kumar till June 22, 2024.

Kumar stands accused of assaulting AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal on May 13 at the chief minister’s official residence.

He appeared via video conferencing before the duty metropolitan magistrate, who extended his custody and instructed the Delhi Police to present him again on June 22.

Previously, the court had prolonged Kumar’s custody for one day, citing the absence of the investigating officer (IO).

Bibhav Kumar was arrested on May 18 and remanded to police custody for five days by a magisterial court the same day. The court noted that his anticipatory bail plea had become invalid due to his arrest.

On May 24, Kumar was transferred to judicial custody for four days, after which he was remanded back to police custody for three days.

An FIR against Kumar was lodged on May 16 under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those pertaining to criminal intimidation, assault or use of criminal force on a woman with intent to disrobe, and attempt to commit culpable homicide.
