Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi on Wednesday has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court, according to the law ministry.
Justice Sarangi, currently serving as a judge of the Orissa High Court, was recommended by the Supreme Court collegium in December of the previous year.
Additionally, the law ministry announced that Justice Muhamed Mustaque Ayumantakath, a judge of the Kerala High Court, will become the acting Chief Justice of that High Court starting July 5. This appointment follows the retirement of incumbent Chief Justice Ashish Jitendra Desai, who will step down on Thursday upon reaching the age of 62.
In a separate notification, the ministry stated that Justice Shree Chandrashekhar of the Jharkhand High Court has been transferred to the Rajasthan High Court. Justice Chandrashekhar had requested a transfer from Jharkhand in December last year, as per his communication with the Supreme Court collegium.
