SC Collegium Recommends Justice Suresh Kait as Chief Justice of J&K and Ladakh HC

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended Justice Suresh Kumar Kait for Chief Justice of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court. This recommendation follows the proposed elevation of Chief Justice N. Kotiswar Singh to the Apex Court.

This decision was formalized in a resolution passed by the Collegium, which is headed by CJI DY Chandrachud.

The Collegium highlighted that Justice Kait is a senior judge of the Delhi High Court and belongs to the Scheduled Caste category.

About the Judge

Born in 1963 in Haryana, Justice Kait earned his Bachelor’s degree in Law from the Campus Law Centre, Delhi.

He served as a Standing Counsel for the Central Government from 2004 until his elevation to the Bench in 2008 as an additional judge of the Delhi High Court. He was appointed a permanent judge of the Delhi High Court in 2013, then transferred to the Telangana High Court in 2016, and returned to the Delhi High Court in 2019.
