West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee filed an appeal before a division bench of the Calcutta High Court challenging a single bench order that restrained her from making any defamatory or incorrect statements against Governor CV Ananda Bose.
The order also restrains three others-newly elected MLAs Sayantika Banerjee and Reyat Hossain Sarkar, as well as TMC leader Kunal Ghosh-from making any defamatory or incorrect statements against Bose.
On July 16 (Tuesday), a single bench of Justice Krishna Rao had issued the interim order in response to a defamation suit filed by Governor Bose. The order was passed after Banerjee made comments related to the oath-taking of two newly-elected TMC MLAs, which prompted Bose to file the suit.
The West Bengal Chief Minister is challenging the single bench order, which is effective until August 14, 2024.
The matter will now be scheduled for a hearing before a division bench of the Calcutta High Court.
