The Supreme Court Collegium, chaired by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, has recommended the appointment of two advocates to the Chhattisgarh High Court. The Collegium, which also includes Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice BR Gavai, has proposed Advocate Bibhu Datta Guru and Advocate Amitendra Kishore Prasad for judgeship.
“In consideration of all relevant factors, including the age and standing at the Bar of the candidate, the Collegium is of the considered view that the candidate is fit and suitable for appointment as a Judge of the High Court,” the Collegium stated in its resolution.
On February 21, the Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court, in consultation with his two senior-most colleagues, recommended the names of the two advocates for judgeship. Both the Chief Minister and the Governor of Chhattisgarh concurred with the recommendation.
Subsequently, the Supreme Court Collegium conducted its own evaluation, including an assessment of the candidates’ merit and suitability. However, the sole consultee-judge regarding these appointments at the Supreme Court recused himself from offering his views, as one of the advocates listed is related to him.
