A Pune court on Friday canceled a non-bailable warrant (NBW) issued against Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange in connection with an alleged cheating case.
The judicial magistrate (first class) court in the city had issued the NBW against Jarange after he failed to appear on July 23 in a 2013 cheating case. On Friday, Jarange appeared before the judicial magistrate (first class), and his lawyer, Harshad Nimbalkar, filed an application requesting the cancellation of the NBW.
The court granted the application and canceled the NBW issued against Jarange, who has brought the Maratha quota issue to the forefront in Maharashtra.
A case under Indian Penal Code sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) was filed against Jarange and two others in 2013.
In 2012, Jarange and the co-accused approached the complainant, who stages plays about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, for six shows of “Shambhuraje” in Jalna district and offered him Rs 30 lakh.
While Rs 16 lakh was paid, a dispute over the remaining amount led to a complaint. A court then directed the police to register a case.
