Shambhu Border Dispute: SC Directs Punjab, Haryana to Suggest Names for Committee

Farmers Protest

The Supreme Court on Friday directed the Punjab and Haryana governments to propose names for neutral personalities to form an independent committee.

This committee will engage with farmers protesting at the Shambhu border, who are demanding a legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their produce.

The Court emphasized that no actions should exacerbate the situation.

It further observed that citizens have the right to voice their grievances in a democratic system and expressed a desire for a smooth initiation of dialogue involving all parties.

This direction came as the Supreme Court was hearing the Haryana government’s plea challenging the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s order, which mandated the removal of barricades at the Shambhu border near Ambala within a week. Farmers have been protesting at this location since February 13, 2024.
