The Patiala House Court has taken cognisance of the charge sheet filed by the Delhi Police against six individuals in the Parliament Security Breach case. The accused include Manoranjan D, Sagar Sharma, Amol Dhanraj Shinde, Neelam Ranolia, Lalit Jha, and Mahesh Kumawat.
The Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) acknowledged the charge sheet submitted by the Delhi Police. Soft copies of the charge sheet have been provided to the accused, and the court has instructed the police to supply hard copies within a week. The matter is scheduled for further proceedings on September 9.
On June 7, the Delhi Police filed an extensive charge sheet of approximately 1,000 pages against the six accused. They have also obtained the necessary sanction for prosecution under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The Special Cell of the Delhi Police submitted a supplementary charge sheet on July 15 after receiving the sanction to prosecute the accused under stringent sections of the UAPA.
Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Advocate Akhand Pratap Singh informed Additional Sessions Judge Dr. Hardeep Kaur that the investigating agency had received sanctions for prosecution under Section 13 of the UAPA from the relevant authorities. Additionally, on Saturday, the court extended the judicial custody of all accused until the next hearing.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena granted prosecution sanction against the six individuals under the UAPA for allegedly attacking Parliament on December 13, 2023, during House proceedings. The Delhi Police had requested their prosecution under Sections 16 and 18 of the UAPA, and the Lieutenant Governor approved the request based on sufficient material on record.
The Review Committee at Tis Hazari, Delhi, also reviewed the evidence collected by the investigating agency on May 30, 2024. The committee found sufficient involvement of the accused in the Parliament attack case, thereby supporting the charges under the UAPA.
The Delhi Police registered an FIR under Sections 186, 353, 452, 153, 34, and 120B of the IPC and Sections 13, 16, and 18 of the UAPA at the Parliament Street Police Station, following a complaint by a Security Officer in the Lok Sabha. The case was later transferred to the Counter Intelligence Unit of the PS Special Cell, New Delhi, where the six accused were arrested and are currently in judicial custody.
This case relates to a security breach at Parliament on the anniversary of the Parliament attack, December 13, 2023.
