Centre Notifies Appointment of 9 Additional Judges of Allahabad HC as Permanent Judges

The Central Government notified the appointment of nine Additional Judges of the Allahabad High Court as permanent judges on Wednesday (August 21).

The appointees are:

  1. Justice Syed Qamar Hasan Rizvi
  2. Justice Manish Kumar Nigam
  3. Justice Anish Kumar Gupta
  4. Justice Nand Prabha Shukla
  5. Justice Kshitij Shailendra
  6. Justice Vinod Diwakar
  7. Justice Prashant Kumar
  8. Justice Manjive Shukla
  9. Justice Arun Kumar Singh Deshwal

According to a statement from the Supreme Court Collegium released last week, the Collegium of the High Court unanimously recommended on May 28, 2024, that these Additional Judges be appointed as permanent Judges. Both the Chief Minister and the Governor of Uttar Pradesh concurred with this recommendation.

Following this, as per the Memorandum of Procedure, the Judges of the Supreme Court familiar with the Allahabad High Court’s affairs were consulted to evaluate the suitability of the aforementioned Judges for permanent appointments. A Committee of two Supreme Court judges, constituted by the Chief Justice of India under the Resolution dated October 26, 2017, of the Supreme Court Collegium, assessed the judgments delivered by these Additional Judges.

To determine the merit and suitability of the Additional Judges for permanent status, the Collegium reviewed all relevant materials, including the opinions of consultee colleagues and reports from the Judgment Assessment Committee. Based on a thorough examination of these aspects, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended the appointment of these nine Additional Judges as permanent Judges of the Allahabad High Court.
