Money Laundering Case: Madras HC Adjourns Hearing on Senthil Balaji’s Plea

Senthil Balaji

The Madras High Court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of former Tamil Nadu Minister V. Senthil Balaji’s appeal against a sessions court’s decision not to discharge him from a money laundering case.

A bench of Justices S.M. Subramaniam and V. Sivagnanam rescheduled the hearing for August 28 at the request of Advocate Gouthaman, who is representing Senthil Balaji.

During the proceedings, Additional Solicitor General A.R.L. Sundaresan informed the court that charges had been framed against Senthil Balaji in the money laundering case by Principal Sessions Judge S. Alli. The trial had already begun with the examination of a prosecution witness and is scheduled to continue with cross-examination on August 22.

Advocate Gouthaman requested additional time to prepare for the arguments.

Granting the request, the bench adjourned the hearing to August 28 while allowing the ongoing trial to proceed as scheduled.

On June 14 last year, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Senthil Balaji in connection with a money laundering case related to a cash-for-jobs scam that allegedly occurred during his tenure as Transport Minister in a previous AIADMK government.
