“Article 370 Integration Success, CAA a Humane Law”: PM Modi

Article 370

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recently described the abrogation of Article 370 as an example of constitutional integration and praised the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) as a humane law.

Speaking at the Rajasthan High Court’s platinum jubilee celebrations in Jodhpur, Modi emphasized that both the abrogation of Article 370 and the CAA are aligned with national interests. He highlighted that Indian courts, from lower courts to the Supreme Court, have adopted a “nation first” approach in their judgments on such issues.

Modi stressed the need for simplifying India’s justice delivery system and mentioned several reforms. He noted the repeal of colonial-era laws and the introduction of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) to replace the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He explained that BNS focuses on justice rather than just punishment, freeing India from colonial legacies.

The Prime Minister also highlighted progress in modernizing the judiciary, with over 18,000 courts computerized and many court complexes and jails now equipped with video conferencing facilities.

He reiterated his support for a Uniform Civil Code (UCC), stating that the government and judiciary both advocate for its implementation. Modi emphasized that such stances help build public trust in the judiciary on matters of national integration.
