Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has called for the resignation of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharama following a Bengaluru court’s order to file an FIR against her and other leaders for alleged extortion linked to the now-scrapped electoral bonds.
During a press conference on, Siddaramaiah criticized the Karnataka BJP and questioned their lack of action regarding Sitharama’s resignation in light of the “scam.”
He also suggested that if an impartial investigation were conducted, Prime Minister Narendra Modi should resign, along with Union Minister and BJP leader H.D. Kumaraswamy.
Siddaramaiah stated, “The Court of People’s Representatives has issued an order to file an FIR against Union Minister Nirmala Sitharama in connection with the electoral bond scam. When will Karnataka BJP protest and demand her resignation? If there is an impartial investigation, Prime Minister Modi will also have to resign. Let Kumaraswamy, who is currently on bail, also resign.”
In response, Kumaraswamy questioned the basis of Siddaramaiah’s demands, asking whether the electoral bond money went into Sitharama’s “personal account.” He stated, “Yes, the Court ordered an FIR, but why should she resign, and why should I resign?”
The Bengaluru court’s order to file an FIR against Nirmala Sitharama and others was issued following a petition from Adarsh Iyer of the Janadhikar Sangharsh Parishad (JSP).
The Special Court of People’s Representatives directed the Tilak Nagar police station in Bengaluru to register the FIR for alleged extortion through electoral bonds.
