An anti-terrorism court in Islamabad extended the physical remand of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s sisters, Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan, by 2 additional days in connection with vandalism cases.
Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain delivered the ruling after reserving his decision. Earlier, on Tuesday, the court had remanded both sisters in police custody for 2 days.
The charges against Aleema and Uzma Khan, along with others, were filed under anti-terrorism laws at the Kohsar Police Station in Islamabad. Their arrest followed a series of detentions involving Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activists, including Khan’s sisters, who were attempting to join a planned protest at D-Chowk.
The PTI criticized the government as “fake” and accused it of panicking, asserting that the administration was resorting to fascist measures to cling to power by infringing on citizens’ rights. On October 4, the party posted on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Former PM Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan has been arrested by the police at D-Chowk for exercising her right to peaceful protest.
Such is the state of affairs in Pakistan under a fascist regime, where citizens have been stripped of their fundamental rights.”
In a follow-up post, PTI reiterated its stance, declaring, “Aleema Khan’s arrest for a peaceful protest at D-Chowk exemplifies the overreach of this fascist government, which is depriving citizens of their basic rights to maintain illegitimate power.”
The party also highlighted Uzma Khan’s arrest, stating, “Uzma Khan was also illegally detained at D-Chowk; the fake government is clearly in a state of panic.”
