Gujarat HC Permits Narayan Sai To Visit Father Asaram In Jodhpur Jail

Concerns have been raised regarding the deteriorating health of Asaram Bapu, who is currently incarcerated in Jodhpur Central Jail.

In light of this situation, his son, Narayan Sai, has filed a petition seeking permission to visit his ailing father.

The Gujarat High Court has granted this request, allowing Narayan Sai, who is serving time in Surat Central Jail, to meet Asaram Bapu for four hours. Rajen Jadhav, the advocate representing Narayan Sai, noted that a deposit of five lakh rupees is required for the visit, with the financial responsibility resting on the applicant.

“The petition we submitted to the Gujarat High Court highlighted that Asaram Bapu, imprisoned in Jodhpur Central Jail, is suffering from multiple health issues. He has faced various ailments for an extended period, necessitating numerous hospitalizations,” Jadhav explained.

During the hearing, the court considered several factors before permitting the meeting. Narayan Sai will be transferred from Surat Central Jail to Jodhpur, where he can spend time with his father under the supervision of the Assistant Commissioner of Police and other officers, as per the court’s directives. The advocate reiterated that the financial burden associated with this arrangement falls on Narayan Sai.

Asaram Bapu has been incarcerated since September 2, 2013, after being arrested in Indore following allegations of raping a teenage girl at his ashram. In 2018, he was convicted by a special court in Jodhpur on charges including sexual assault and rape, resulting in a life sentence.

The case against Asaram includes accusations made by a girl from Surat, while Narayan Sai faces similar allegations from the girl’s younger sister. He too has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

This complex legal situation, compounded by health concerns, has prompted ongoing discussions about the welfare of both Asaram Bapu and Narayan Sai as they navigate the implications of their respective convictions.
