2 Juveniles For Dragging Traffic Cops

The Delhi police has recently apprehended two 17-year-old boys for allegedly dragging 2 traffic police personnel for approximately 20 meters after running a red light near Kapashera in Southwest Delhi.

According to authorities, one of the boys is studying at an open university while the other is still in school. They were driving a car belonging to the father of one of the teens when the incident occurred.

The car’s owner, a resident of Vasant Kunj, is now facing charges under the Motor Vehicles Act.

The incident took place on Saturday evening when Assistant Sub-Inspector Pramod Singh and Head Constable Sailesh Chouhan, from the Vasant Vihar traffic circle, were issuing challans on Ber Sarai Road.

Surendra Choudhary, Deputy Commissioner of Police for Southwest Delhi, stated that the two officers were injured in a hit-and-run while attempting to stop the vehicle.

A video of the incident, showing the policemen being dragged while clinging to the car’s bonnet, quickly went viral on social media. Choudhary explained that when Sailesh signaled the car to stop, the driver initially complied.

However, as the officers asked him to exit the vehicle, he attempted to flee, accelerating and dragging the officers along with him.

Fortunately, both officers sustained only minor injuries and were subsequently admitted to Safdarjung Hospital for treatment.

An FIR was filed on Sunday against the boys under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including 109(1) for attempted murder, 221 for obstructing a public servant, and 132 for assaulting a public servant in the line of duty, among others.

The incident has sparked discussions on traffic safety and the treatment of law enforcement personnel while performing their duties.
