The Telangana government has issued a notice to singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh and the organisers of his Dil-Luminati concert, scheduled for November 15, 2024, in Hyderabad.
The notice instructs Dosanjh to refrain from performing songs that promote alcohol, drugs, or violence, citing evidence from previous concerts where such songs were part of his setlist.
The directive was prompted by a representation from Panditrao Dharenavar, a Chandigarh-based activist, who submitted video evidence of Dosanjh performing explicit songs at earlier Dil-Luminati concerts in New Delhi and Jaipur, as well as at international shows.
Fans in Hyderabad have been eagerly awaiting the concert, part of Dosanjh’s 11-city Dil-Luminati tour, which began on October 26 in New Delhi. Hyderabad marks the third stop on the tour, with tickets for the event nearly sold out. However, the government’s directive has cast a shadow on the event’s proceedings.
The notice was issued by the Department of Welfare of Women and Children, Disabled, and Senior Citizens of Ranga Reddy district. It also prohibits the use of children on stage during the concert, aligning with World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines on sound exposure.
The order stated: “Children under 13 should not be exposed to sound levels above 120 dB. Therefore, children should not be used on stage during your live show where peak sound pressure levels exceed this limit.”
The notice underscores the health risks posed by loud music and flashing lights, particularly to children under the age of 13. It formally reminded the organizers and Dosanjh to adhere to these directives to ensure a safe and compliant event.
As Dosanjh’s concerts are known for their high-energy performances and massive fan following, the latest directive may impact the dynamics of the Hyderabad show.
However, the focus remains on ensuring public safety and compliance with regulations while hosting such large-scale events.
