Shocking: Law Student Gangraped By Boyfriend, 3 Others In AP, Attempts Suicide

Law Student Gangraped By Boyfriend

A law student in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, was gang-raped by her boyfriend and 3 others on August 13, 2024.

The case came to light on Wednesday after the YSR Congress Party raised the issue on social media, tagging Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Anitha Vangalapudi and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.

The assault was filmed by the perpetrators, who then threatened the victim with dire consequences if she reported the crime. The survivor faced continuous harassment, leading her to attempt suicide, though she was saved by her father.

The post condemned the gang-rape and the threats, asking how many more girls would suffer due to the government’s alleged inaction. It further stated that the victim’s father had saved her after the suicide attempt.

In response, Visakhapatnam City Police confirmed the arrest of the four accused. The individuals were identified as Batha Vamsi (27), Boddu Jagdish (27), Polipalli Anand (28), and Davulapalli Rajesh (23). Three of the accused were final-year LLB students, while the fourth was employed full-time.

The survivor, also a final-year LLB student, had been in a relationship with her boyfriend, Vamsi, for a year.

The horrific incident unfolded when the victim’s boyfriend took her to a friend’s room, where the other three accused filmed the assault. They shared the video with Vamsi, who then joined in the abuse. The accused threatened the woman with the release of the video, continuing their harassment.

The police arrested the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation is ongoing.
