The Andhra Pradesh Assembly on Thursday passed a resolution to establish a permanent High Court Bench in Kurnool.
Law and Justice Minister N Md Farooq presented the resolution, which was unanimously approved by Speaker C Ayyannapatrudu.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu emphasized the state government’s commitment to fulfilling the election promise of a High Court Bench in Kurnool. He assured that efforts would be made to establish the Bench as soon as possible.
“This is a key promise from our manifesto, and the TDP-led NDA government will ensure it is fulfilled,” Naidu stated.
During the Assembly discussion, Naidu added that the Cabinet had already resolved to move forward with the establishment of the Bench and that a resolution would also be sent to the High Court and the Government of India.
Naidu further assured that the government would retain the Lokayukta, State Human Rights Commission, and other similar tribunals in Rayalaseema.
Following the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014, both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana shared a common High Court in Hyderabad until December 2018. A dedicated High Court for Andhra Pradesh began functioning in Amaravati on January 1, 2019.
Despite the YSRCP government’s support for the Kurnool Bench, the proposal had not materialized until now.
