A sexual assault case has been registered against Kerala rapper and songwriter Hirandas Murali, popularly known as Vedan, after a young doctor filed a complaint accusing him of repeatedly engaging in sexual relations with her under false promises of marriage between August 2021 and March 2023.

The complaint was lodged with the Thrikkakara police in Kochi, according to the Police PRO.

Allegations & Investigation

The doctor alleges that Vedan, who hails from Thrissur, initially connected with her via Instagram. She claimed that he visited her residence in Kozhikode and assaulted her, continuing to do so at various locations while assuring her that they would marry.

Towards the end of 2023, the complainant said Vedan deliberately avoided her, which caused her significant emotional distress and depression, leading her to seek medical treatment.

Police have registered a case and launched a formal investigation into the allegations.

Previous Controversies

Vedan has faced MeToo allegations in the past. Earlier this year, on April 29, he was arrested after nearly six grams of ganja were seized from his apartment near Vyttila in Tripunithura. Circle Inspector AL Yesudas reported that Rs 9 lakh in cash was also recovered during the search. Vedan reportedly claimed the money was an advance booking amount for an event.

The Forest Department has also initiated an inquiry into a chain owned by Vedan, which allegedly contains leopard teeth, raising wildlife protection concerns.

Police further stated that Vedan admitted to drug use during the investigation. At the time of the raid, nine people were present at his flat.
