The body of 27-year-old techie Shilpa was found hanging at her residence in Bengaluru’s Suddaguntepalya area.
Her parents have filed a police complaint alleging that she died by suicide due to constant dowry harassment by her husband Praveen and his family.
Allegations Of Dowry Harassment
According to the police, Shilpa’s parents claim that she was subjected to dowry harassment by her husband and in-laws, which led to her taking her own life. A case has been registered in this matter, and Praveen has been arrested.
Similar Case In Greater Noida
This case comes on the heels of the Greater Noida dowry case involving the murder of Nikki Bhati. Nikki was allegedly set on fire by her husband and in-laws over dowry demands and died on August 21. Videos purportedly showing her being assaulted and set on fire have surfaced on social media.
Nikki’s father, Bhikhari Singh Payla, has accused her in-laws of repeatedly harassing her for money, even when she tried to start a beauty parlour. He claims to have given Rs 1.5 lakh to help her start the business, but alleges that her in-laws prevented her from putting up a signboard. Payla expressed satisfaction with the administration’s response but demanded justice in court.
Payla told media, “We are satisfied with the administration. They have worked well for us. We should similarly get justice in the Court. Mahesh Sharma (BJP MP) had come to visit us today. He assured us that we would get justice. I request CM Yogi Adityanath for a bulldozer action on their (accused family) house. I lost my daughter. She won’t come back, but such monsters should be destroyed.”
Arrests Made In Nikki’s Case
Four people, including Nikki’s husband and her in-laws, have been arrested for the alleged dowry murder. The police have confirmed that further interrogation is underway. Vipin Bhati, one of the accused, was shot in the leg during a police encounter on August 24 and was admitted to the hospital. He was later remanded in 14-day judicial custody.
Both cases highlight the need for stricter enforcement of laws against dowry harassment and demands. The families of the victims are demanding justice, and the cases are being closely watched.
