CBI moves Bombay High Court Seeks Extension of Stay on Order granting Bail to Anil Deshmukh

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday filed a application in the Bombay High Court seeking extension till January 3 on the stay on an order granting bail to former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh in a corruption case.

The Bombay High Court had granted bail to Maharashtra Former Home Minister and NCP leader Anil Deshmukh in a corruption case filed by CBI.

While granting bail to Anil Deshmukh, Bombay High court had given 10 days time to CBI to file an appeal against the order of bail in Apex court. Deshmukh, 74, had approached the high court after his bail plea was rejected by a special CBI court last month.

CBI informed the Bombay high court that they had filed an appeal in the Supreme Court, but the plea would be heard only in January 2023 since the court has closed for vacation.

Eariler the Central bureau of investigation (CBI) on Friday filed an appeal against Bombay HC order granting bail to former Maharashtra home minister & NCP leader Anil Deshmukh in a corruption case launched by CBI on Dec 12.

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader has been in jail since November last year after he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case. In April this year, he was arrested by the CBI in a corruption case. He is in judicial custody and lodged in Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail.

Deshmukh was granted bail by the High Court last month in the ED case. However, his bail plea in the corruption case was rejected by the special CBI court saying there was prima facie evidence against him.

In his bail application, Deshmukh requested to be released on bail stating that he is suffering from multiple ailments.
