Congress MLA Irfan Ansari Opted Out of the ED Investigation, Requested Two-Week Time

Dr. Irfan Ansari, a suspended Congress MLA, did not appear today in front of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the MLA cash recovery case.

On Friday, his advocate told the legally speaking that “time has been sought on medical reasons.”

The Directorate of Enforcement had issued a notice to the three MLAs of Jharkhand Congress to appear for questioning in the cash recovery case on different dates.

In July 2022, Ansari and three other Jharkhand-based Congress party MLAs were detained in connection with a sizable sum of cash that was found on them in Howrah, West Bengal. Later, Congress suspended all three MLAs.

The Three MLAs from Bengal namely Irfan Ansari, Rajesh Kachchap, and Naman Bixal Kongari, were driving an SUV on National Highway 16 at Ranihati when the police stopped them.

The relatives of Congress MLA Irfan Ansari refuted allegations that the BJP is attempting to destabilize the JMM-Congress coalition government in Jharkhand, saying that “the government cannot be brought down with just a meager sum of Rs 40-50 lakh.”

Ansari’s relatives said he was in Howrah to “do shopping, especially of sarees” ahead of the upcoming festive season and was thus carrying a large sum of money.
