Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju told the media on Tuesday that Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Supreme Court is constantly coordinating with the Department of Justice and the e-Committee.
According to the Law Minister, it will be essential for courts to be technologically enabled in order to help reduce the approximately 4.90 crore cases that are currently pending across all of the courts.
Kiren Rijiju, the Union Minister of Law, honoured the winners of the eCourts Project awards at Jaisalmer House in New Delhi. He also emphasised the importance of delivering justice quickly.
An award ceremony honouring the eCourts Project award recipients was held on Tuesday at Jaisalmer House, New Delhi by the Department of Justice (DOJ). Kiren Rijiju, the Union Minister of Law and Justice, and SP Singh Baghel, the Minister of State, attended the ceremony Officials and staff of the Department of Justice were also present at the occasion.
The Minister unveiled the Access to Justice Division’s DISHA (Designing Innovative Solutions for Holistic Access to Justice) Desk Calendar, which highlights initiatives being carried out for the welfare of citizens.
MoS Baghel also praised the Department of Justice for a variety of citizen-centric services that make the justice system inclusive and accessible to all. He also emphasised the importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and technology integration in courts in order to reduce the pendency of cases.
With its citizen-centric approach and different programmes and initiatives, the Department of Justice, according to Baghel, is making enormous efforts to provide justice to the last mile in every nook and corner of the country. According to MoS Baghel, the eCourts Project, which has the goal of transforming the Indian judiciary by enabling ICT in courts, is leaping ahead with remarkable achievements on its side with the close cooperation of eCommittee and Supreme Court of India.
The prestigious Digital India Award 2022 in Category-Digital Empowerment of Citizens was presented by President Droupadi Murmu under the patronage of the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and the National e-Governance Award 2021-2022 in ‘Gold Category’ was presented by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances.
Recognizing the critical outcomes of the eCourts project’s efforts with eCommittee, the central government has conferred a national award for institutions engaged in empowering persons with disabilities, 2021 (Sarvshrestha Sugamya Yatayat ke Sadahan/ Soochana Evem Sanchar Prodyogiki) for making legal space more accessible and inclusive.
