P&H High Court, Simarjeet Singh

Lok Insaaf Party chief and former MLA Simarjeet Singh Banson got conditional bail from the P&H High Court on Wednesday, 25 February. He was surrendered in court in July 2021 on charges of rape.

The P&H high court directed Simarjit Singh Bains to surrender weapons and licence to the appropriate authority within 15 days of his release from prison and to notify the investigator of his compliance.

The court also stated that the petitioner shall not contact, call, text, message, remark, stare, stalk, make any gestures, or express any unusual or inappropriate, verbal or otherwise objectionable behaviour towards the victim and her family, either physically or through phone call or any other social media, through any other mode, nor shall unnecessarily roam around the victim’s home until the trial is completed.

As per story of the case on November 16, 2020, a woman filed an application before the Ludhiana Commissioner of Police to register a first information report (FIR) against Simarjeet Singh Bains, Kamaljit Singh, Baljinder Kaur, Jasbir Kaur, Sukhchain Singh, Paramjit Singh alias Pamma and Gogi Sharma.

As the FIR was not registered, the woman moved to a local court seeking directions for registration of an FIR, after which a case was registered.

On July 11, 2020, Bains had surrendered before a local court following the Supreme Court orders. On July 16 2021, a case was registered against Simarjeet Singh Bains and five others, including his two brothers, on the directions of a local court. A chargesheet was filed in December 2021.
