Delhi riots accused Umar Khalid has been released from Tihar Jail at 7 am today after he was granted interim bail for seven days to attend his sister’s marriage.
On December 19, Delhi’s Karkardooma Court had granted interim bail to Umar Khalid for one week in Delhi riots larger conspiracy case, for attending his marriage ceremony.
The Delhi court grants interim bail to Umar Khalid from December 23 to December 30.
Ex JNU student Umar Khalid was booked under the anti-terror law Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and provisions of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly masterminding the February 2020 riots, which had left 53 people dead and over 700 injured.
Widespread violence had erupted during the protests against CAA and NRC. Khalid, who was arrested by Delhi Police in the riots case in September 2020, was also involved in the JNU sedition row case.
